In recent years Gili islands have become a favourite paradise island escape from Bali. Located off northwest coast of Lombok, these three little atols are surrounded by pure white sand beaches and clear water, with superb diving and snorkeling straight from the beach. There is no motorized transport on the islands, just horses and carts, and they are small enough to walk around in under two hours. GiliTrawangan has accommodation ranging from backpacker homestays, uber-chic private villas with private pool – and plenty of mid-range accommodation in between. Trawangan is also famous for rocking good parties pumping into the early hours, and is the most popular island. GiliMeno and Gili Air, on the other hand, offer a more back to basic desert island experience, being blissfully quiet with few modest accommodations and small hotels.
